Kansas City, Missouri has long been known for its amazing barbecue and jazz scene; but, as of late, the city is becoming a hub for people who are moving in order to seek better cancer treatment.

North Kansas City Hospital, KU Hospital, and Saint Luke’s are all leading the pack when it comes to discovering new types of cancer and figuring out ways to effectively treat them. Local Kansas City movers have found that the most leaps and bounds that the local health care community have been making are in regards to prostate cancer.

North Kansas City Hospital is partnered with The University of Kansas Cancer Center and is using the new Calypso System for prostate cancer treatment – a method that has numerous prostate cancer patients moving to Kansas City from out of state in order to receive the best of the best treatment available.

The Calypso System allows for a better method when searching and locating prostate cancer infected areas of the body; subjecting less radiation to the healthy tissue surrounding the prostate and resulting in less side effects. But, prostate cancer is not the sole reason why so many people are moving to Kansas City for cancer treatment.

Saint Luke’s Hospital is using another alternative method in order to find other types of cancer, particularly lung cancer. The technique being used is called a “liquid biopsy,” which is a simple blood test that can detect the presence of lung cancer, rather than having to do a tissue biopsy.

The Kansas City movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage are more thrilled to hear about the newest form of treating cancer, which is currently being used at KU Hospital and is called Blincyto. Blincyto is CAR T-cell therapy, which removes T-cells from the body, and then they are genetically engineered to attack the tumors before being placed back into the patient. The process is known as immunotherapy and is a top choice for cancer patients, causing a number of new cancer patients to move to Kansas City.

If you are planning on moving to Kansas City anytime in the near future, you may begin to see some highway delays due to construction. An organization that represents the highway construction in Topeka, Kansas plans to lobby Kansas State Legislature in order to prevent the transfer of highway funds to the general fund.

As local Kansas City movers travel the highways daily, they have learned that Kansas State officials have transferred roughly $300 million in highway funds to the general fund, using the money to cover revenue shortfalls in areas other than highway construction.

According to the highway contractors and Kansas highway construction companies involved, the money allotted for highway reconstruction and improvements is not going where it should be.

In fact, Bob Totten, executive vice president of the Kansas Contractors Association, stated that the transferring of highway funds is going to compromise the safety of Kansas’ 140,000 miles of roadways. This will end up costing the state more in the long run if highway improvements are not made and the money keeps being taken away from construction projects.

The Kansas City movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage heard that since state lawmakers approved the 10-year, $8 billion highway T-Works program back in 2010, state officials have continuously raided the funds and transferred them to the general fund.

Current lobbying efforts aim to make the transferring of funds frowned upon so that planned preservation projects can commence. If you are moving to Kansas City, lobbyists hope to see the paused highway construction projects commence, so expect some traffic delays and less potholes.
