In the wake of recent natural disasters, the Kansas City movers thought we’d share a little advice on what to do post-bad weather to repair your home and get insurance to pay for it. After all, isn’t that why you have homeowner’s insurance in the first place?
First, leave the diagnostic procedures to the professionals. There is no need for you to climb on your roof and examine for leaks–if there is a weak spot you risk falling off or through the roof and thereby causing further damage. Take photos from as many angles as you can access, and have the technicians do the same from their “bird’s eye view” equipment.
Contact your insurance company and keep them up to speed with the state of your claims and repairs. Get pre-authorizations if possible, because they will save time in the approval process. Remember, keep a folder of all relevant paperwork–receipts and all, to ensure that your expenses are thoroughly documented to show your insurance company.
